Botanical frames: bringing nature into your home

Have you ever found yourself walking through a forest, up in the mountains, or even in a field of flowers, and felt completely overwhelmed by the beauty and grandeur before your eyes? That feeling of being in perfect harmony with the landscape?

Our guest contributor, Mélanie Moreau, shares her passion for biophilic architectural design.

Biophilic design

This innate attraction we feel toward nature and its mysteries is known as biophilia. When we aim to improve design by creating healthier environments, we call it biophilic design—the practice of designing spaces that integrate natural elements and foster a connection with nature in the places where we live and work.

A major study conducted by Terrapin Bright Green shows that the relationship between humans and their environment directly influences how they feel. Designing spaces that inspire, energize, and support the people who use them is more than beneficial—it’s essential. Research has shown that architectural biophilia helps reduce stress and absenteeism while increasing productivity.

“It was through my desire to integrate vegetation into interior design in a sustainable way that the idea of botanical frames was born. That’s the vision behind my creations. Because beyond physical décor, emotions emerge. When your eyes rest on moss, you are instantly brought back to the present moment. And while I’m speaking of frames, I’m also thinking of the plants on your shelves or hanging from the ceiling, the wood your bookcase is made of, the raw materials covering your floors, or your beautiful windows slightly open, letting in the song of cardinals—elements that all connect us to the natural world.”

We often say that décor is a reflection of the soul. Caring for your interior is just as important as caring for the exterior. Adding a touch of nature to your home to bring a sense of calm—why not? You can browse this Quebec-based artist’s online boutique for inspiration or to find a favorite botanical frame.

Botanical frames: maintenance-free

We love this décor option that requires no regular watering. Botanical frames are made from stabilized moss—natural moss infused with glycerin. No chemical products are used. This process allows the moss to retain its natural appearance for many years.
