CSA and Energy Star Certification

Energy efficiency by excellence

Our products provide energy efficiency and savings while helping protect the environment.

Isothermic Doors & Windows products are labelled Energy Star.

Energy Star is the internationally recognised energy efficiency label.

By conforming to this norm, Isothermic Doors & Windows offers superior standards of quality. Doors and windows that are Energy Star labelled allow you to reduce your energy costs by up to 12 percent.

How do we meet the Energy Star requirements?

To be labelled Energy Star, a product must meet the energy efficiency standard that has been established for four climate zones in Canada. Zone A is for the mildest area and Zone D, the coldest.

The four climate zones have been divided with the help of heating degree-days (a measure of the average annual temperature).

The levels of performance measure how windows and doors will shield from the cold or how they will use the sunrays as an advantage to the heating system of a building.

The more zones the product is efficient to, the better performing it will be.

How to choose wisely your windows and doors?

All you need is to look for Energy Star labelled products. The label will also inform you on the proper zones where the product is efficient. Make sure that your purchase is convenient to your zone!

Isothermic Doors & Windows labels her products with Energy Star, enabling you to recognise the best in their category where energy performance is concerned.

Rest assured, the CSA will test the products for you.

Isothermic Doors and Windows products meet the standards of the Canadian Standards Association (CAN/CSA A-440).

Although this program is not an obligation, manufacturers with products that are CSA certified such as Isothermic Doors & Windows have a competitive advantage. As an advised customer, you are sure that CSA rated products meet, and sometimes exceed, the actual market requirements.

This certification consists of measuring the efficiency of windows in order to confirm the performance claims in the advertisement of the manufacturer. Therefore, as a customer, you can rely on a third, neutral party to test the products. This norm is recognized by control organisms and consumers both in Canada and in other countries.

CAN/CSA-A-440 grants an efficiency rating according to regulated standards.

How are the ratings granted?

The airtightness of a window is measured by applying a wind load pressure of 75 Pa, which represents 34 km/ph. Next, the air infiltration volume is measured. An airtightness performance rating of A1 is equal to 0.5 cubic feet per minute per foot (cfm/ft) of joint (perimeter length) air leakage, A2 is 0.3 cfm/ft and A3 is 0.1 cfm/ft.

Watertightness is measured by the volume of water infiltration through a window under a wind of 57 to 123 km/ph. It indicates the maximum pressure resistance without water infiltration. A watertightness performance rating of B1 is equal to resistance to 3 pounds per square foot pressure (psf), B2 is 4.2 psf, B3 is 5.2 psf and so on up to B7.

The wind resistance rating is valid and more significant for residences or commercial buildings that are built high. It is preferable to rely on the two first ratings when searching for quality.

Isothermic Doors & Windows products are CSA labelled. This enables the customer to verify the quality of our products.
